The exposition starts as the airplane crashes into an island, leaving a few children behind. When Jack begins to plan lighting a fire on the top of mountain and Jack prepares hunting with his choir, the dispute builds toward the point of greatest interest. The climax of the whole book is when they kill Simon, misunderstanding him as a beast. At almost last, Jack and members of his tribe chase Ralph. This is where the end of the problem appears. When they're saved by an officer, the story finishes.
